After living in the hospital for over a year, Atid* finally moved into his Kellyville Supported Independent Living home this month.
For Atid, his transition to his Kellyville home couldn’t happen soon enough. He longed for independence, away from the confines and routine of hospital living, where he was unable to make his own choices like what to eat and how to spend his time. It’s safe to say that he had been looking forward to this move for a while.
However, a wait for his equipment meant a delay in his being able to call Kellyville home. So, in April the Achieve team arranged a community outing. This provided an opportunity for Atid to feel comfortable with the team, while enjoying a taste of freedom. He loved every minute of it.
According to his sister, he was so excited about the move that he couldn't stop talking about it and didn't sleep a wink the night before. The Kellyville team was also thrilled and decorated his new home accordingly to mark his arrival.
Atid shared that he loves good food, especially when he can cook it himself. One of his recent meals was lamb chops and chips, which he made with the team. He enjoys all kinds of food like sushi and a variety of freshly-made meals.
He recently visited Blacktown Shopping Centre, Time Zone, and Blacktown Showground, where he enjoyed discovering new things. He had such a good time that he asked to go again. The team accommodated his request by arranging another outing the following weekend, and Atid’s sister thanked the team profusely for arranging these outings as it meant the world to her brother.
"I'm happy to be out of the hospital. This is now my new home,” Atid said. “I like making my own choices and I like that people listen to me.”
