Wellbeing and inclusion

Achieve Australia supports employees through a range of health and wellbeing supports. We take a proactive approach to Work Health and Safety and the easy to access tools, benefits and apps that help our employees take care of themselves. We also offer free access to confidential professional counselling services and a financial counselling service.

Employee Assistance Program(EAP)

Our EAP program is delivered by outside experts, Assure. Staff and their immediate families can access confidential and professional counselling, coaching and support from qualified professionals via phone, message apps or online. They can talk about work or personal or family concerns. Staff can also use the 24/7 crisis emergency telephone counselling service.

A focus on wellbeing – Peer Support Network

Achieve has a network of employees who have completed the mental health first aid certificate available to provide informal provide support to colleagues.

Fitness passport

For a small weekly cost, Achieve staff get a fitness passport that gives them and their family members access to many gyms and swimming pools in a location to suit.

Balance2Life – Achieve’s health and wellbeing app

This health and wellbeing app is free to all staff so they can take charge of their health and wellbeing. It offers podcasts news and resources, wellbeing management tools, learning content, chat and more. All will be revealed when you start with us.

Financial wellness program

Achieve staff can access a financial wellness program from AccessPay offering financial expertise on managing personal finances, applying for a mortgage, increasing a credit score and more.

Quality and safeguarding

We provide our frontline staff with Maybo training on how to manage challenging behaviours. Our clients need staff who know how to apply positive approaches to behaviours, safely de-escalate a situation, be clear of how to manage their own personal safety and redirect and guide clients in appropriate ways if needed.

Our managing challenging behaviours framework and policy at Achieve means all frontline staff undertake Maybo training at induction, and complete refresher training too. This is just one of the ways we provide our staff with ways to continue to build their skills and knowledge.

Supervision frameworks

We restructured our frontline based on staff feedback to provide our disability support workers with greater access to supervision from their manager. Every support worker has safe and supportive supervision with senior staff so they can ask questions and continue their learning journey to do their best for our clients every day.

Inclusion and diversity strategy

The people we support are as diverse as the communities we live in, and we want our workforce to reflect that same diversity. To make sure every person we support feels safe and respected, we consider the full range of their experiences, identities and needs, including disability, age, gender, cultural background and religion.

We believe inclusion starts with our people. Achieve’s Diversity and Inclusion Working Group brings together employees from across all areas of the organisation to shape our inclusion and diversity strategy. The group keeps diversity front and centre in everything we do, ensuring our workforce is not only skilled and professional but also reflects the broad diversity of disability, age, ethnicity, gender, sexuality and religion we see in the wider NSW community.

Supporting people with disability in open employment across all departments is central to who we are. We are proud to be a Disability Confident Recruiter, recognised by the Australian Disability Network, and we encourage candidates with disability to apply for roles at all levels of our organisation. This means our recruitment process is accessible, and we provide adjustments wherever needed. You can learn more about what being a Disability Confident Recruiter means for job seekers on the Australian Disability Network website.

We have also launched our Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2024–2027, Achieve’s commitment to removing barriers that prevent people with disability from accessing our workplaces, communications and technologies. The DIAP supports our goal of building a diverse, inclusive and contemporary workforce where everyone can contribute and succeed.

Our DIAP is guided by three key pillars:

  • Our Places – creating accessible and welcoming environments for all
  • Our Voices – strengthening the way we communicate with our teams and community
  • Our People – attracting great candidates and supporting employees with disability to thrive

Achieve has also launched the Disability Employee & Accessibility Network (DEAN), a voluntary, employee-led group that brings together people with lived experience of disability and allies to champion accessibility across Achieve, including The Achieve Foundation, AchievAble Enterprises, Windara and The Sewing Basket. DEAN is a space to listen, learn and lead, keeping disability inclusion part of how we work every day.
