My Life, My Say is a life-skills learning program co-designed by young people with disability, their families and staff that support them. The program gives young people aged 18 to 30 the skills to build confidence, make friends and develop practical skills for everyday life. The program focuses on real-world learning, self-determination, social and emotional development, and supportive teaching.

12 Week Course
Communication, self-advocacy, and life skills for people with
intellectual disabilities.
Program Description
Learners develop the skills and knowledge to know their rights, communicate with people about what they need, and advocate for themselves.

Course Outcomes
Young people will learn:

what it means to self-advocate.

about rights and responsibilities.

how to explain what they need and want.
-
how self-advocacy can keep them safe.
-
how to use self-advocacy when people treat them badly.
-
how to set boundaries.
-
how to know when someone is being inappropriate with them.
-
how to contact the police, an advocate, or another agency for help when people treat them badly.
-
how to provide feedback and make complaints.
-
how to advocate on big issues.

Haberfield - starting 6th October 2026 for 12 weeks (with a break for the festive season) - weekly on Tuesday evenings - 4pm to 8 pm
Seven Hills – starting 7th October 2026 for 12 weeks (with a break for the festive season) - weekly on Wednesday evenings - 4pm to 8 pm
Como – starting 8th October 2026 for 12 weeks (with a break for the festive season) - weekly on Thursday evenings - 4pm to 8 pm

Who is this course for?
My Life, My Say is for young people aged 18 to 30 with intellectual disability who want to build practical skills, confidence and connections for greater independence.

My Life, My Say supports NDIS goals linked to independence, communication, social participation and personal development. It can contribute to outcomes in areas such as improved daily living and increased social and community participation by building skills that help people live life their way.
NDIS funding
My Life, My Say can be funded through Core Supports in a participant’s NDIS plan. Support can be provided at a 1:1, 1:2 or 1:3 ratio, depending on the participant’s needs and available funding.

Young people with disability aged 18 to 30 who want to build skills for everyday life, meet new people and increase their independence.
There are six short courses (modules):

Moving out of home

Money and budgeting

Using public transport

Communication skills

Self-advocacy

Building relationships
The program is delivered at Achieve Australia Community and Lifestyle Hubs in Epping, Haberfield, Como and Casino NSW.
Each course goes for 12 weeks. Course length and schedules may vary slightly by location and to meet the needs of learners.
There is a mix of on-campus and community learning to give you foundational knowledge and support you to implement your new skills. Courses are practical and supportive. Learning focuses on real-world skills, confidence and social connection.
Along with learning the practical skills of the courses, an external evaluation of the pilot found positive changes in connection, confidence and choice. Participants built social skills, made friends, and felt more confident expressing their needs.
