PwC partner with Achieve in new literacy program

25 September 2018

Achieve Australia has reached the end of an 8-week long partnership with PwC to deliver an interactive literacy skills program for people with disability.

This program represents a new take on Corporate Social Responsibility by PwC. Rather than just offering funding, PwC are working alongside Achieve Australia to understand and further their work in support of social inclusion for people with disability.

“PwC’s purpose is to build trust in society and solve important problems, mentoring opportunities like Achieve Australia’s Positive Partners Program are important in bringing this purpose to life,” said Rosalie Wilkie, Partner, Social Impact at PwC Australia.

“We were delighted to support this program to develop awareness and the everyday application of literacy skills. Our mentors loved every minute of this shared learning opportunity,” Ms Wilkie said.

The experience has not only offered a chance for the PwC volunteers to give back to the community, but Achieve’s participants with disability gained a unique exposure to professional communities and corporate settings.

Together, the Achieve participants and PwC volunteers work through activities to learn how to apply literacy skills to everyday situations. At the conclusion of the program, a book of short stories written by participants will be published.

By involving employees in proactive volunteer programs, PwC have shown that they understand the true purpose of Achieve Australia’s work in support of people with disability.

Achieve hopes the program will provide a framework for further corporate partnerships in similar educational programs.
