Achieve Australia continually reviews its services to uphold the highest standards of quality, independence and participant choice. After a detailed assessment, and in line with reforms recommended by the 2024 NDIS Review and the Disability Royal Commission, Achieve Australia will conclude the delivery of Support Coordination to 103 people on 14 July 2025.
Those reviews found that providing direct supports and Support Coordination to the same participant can create a conflict of interest, perceived or otherwise.
Achieve has always maintained a clear operational divide between coordinating a person’s supports and delivering those supports. Nonetheless, we acknowledge that a perceived conflict can still arise.
“To protect every participant’s right to genuine choice and control, Achieve will discontinue from Support Coordination, while continuing our commitment to all other supports. This decision follows our earlier exit from Specialist Disability Accommodation in 2020, undertaken to remove any potential conflict between housing and Supported Independent Living supports,” said Jo-Anne Hewitt, CEO Achieve Australia.
Key points of the transition
- Participant choice and control – Every participant may nominate any registered Support Coordination provider. Achieve will respect each decision and supply impartial guidance so people can compare options with confidence.
- Facilitated hand-over – A dedicated transition team will manage consent forms, transfer profiles securely and, where requested, introduce participants to their chosen provider, ensuring no interruption to existing supports.
- No fees – Achieve will not charge Support Coordination fees in connection with this change; all transition assistance is provided at no cost to participants.
- Continued direct supports – All other Achieve Australia services, including Supported Independent Living services and community programs, will continue unchanged and remain the responsibility of each participant’s current support team.
Next steps
Individual communications outlining timelines and consent requirements has been sent to participants, families and guardians. Achieve’s transition team is available to answer questions and provide assistance throughout the process.
