About our Waitara home

Welcome to our Supported Independent Living home in Waitara. This all-male, single-storey house is home to three friendly housemates aged between 33 and 50. The home has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, two lounge rooms, and a large backyard with a veggie patch and outdoor BBQ area. It’s a bright, welcoming space with accessible parking and good van access, located just a short walk to Hornsby and Waitara train stations and close to Hornsby Mall.

Life at Waitara

The atmosphere in the house is relaxed and friendly. The guys enjoy spending time together in the shared spaces but also have the option of quieter time in the second lounge. Weekends are often filled with social activities, like group walks, BBQs in the backyard, or dinners out in the community. The residents enjoy getting involved in gardening and help out around the house where they can. The kitchen is a lively hub – one of the housemates takes on the role of “chef of the house” and leads the cooking most days.

Family is a big part of life here. Birthdays and special occasions are often celebrated with everyone’s families, and the long-standing staff are often invited to join in as well.

Community and Activities

Residents have full schedules and enjoy participating in regular outings and community activities. With a shared vehicle available and support staff always nearby, they have the freedom and flexibility to explore their interests. From local walks to shopping trips and special outings, there’s always something happening. At home, gardening, music, and shared meals keep the days varied and enjoyable.

Waitara is staffed by a consistent, experienced team who know the residents well. We provide 24/7 support, with a person-centred approach tailored to each individual’s needs and preferences. Our staff work closely with each resident to support their daily routines and goals – whether that’s building skills around cooking, managing appointments, or simply enjoying life with confidence and independence.

The guys at Dundas enjoy a beautiful setting with nice gardens and vegetable patches, which they love to maintain. They are about to plant the garden for winter, and can’t wait to see what grows in the cooler months. The home features two lounge rooms, allowing everyone to socialise together or enjoy some quiet time separately.
