Celebrity encounters – Home and Away

Alex Roustan had the “best day ever” when he recently met some of his favourite celebrities from Home and Away.

An avid viewer of the TV show, Alex has been keeping scrapbooks dating back to when Home and Away began and was thrilled to have some of his pictures autographed. He also got the opportunity to have photos taken with Steve Peacocke (who plays Darryl 'Brax' Braxton), Lincoln Younes (Casey Braxton) and Rebecca Breeds (Ruby Buckton).

But the most exciting part of the day was when Home and Away’s Director invited Alex to be an extra in one of the upcoming episodes!

"Everything was very cool,” said Alex. “I’ve always wanted to be an actor on the show.”

Alex was joined by other Day Program participants who also got the chance to interact with the cast and find out firsthand how a Home and Away episode is filmed. 

Achieving Lifelong Learning

Kate Towers and Rob Erwin know that it’s never too late to start learning new skills.

Fifteen years since leaving school, Kate and Rob have started studying again through courses at Hornsby TAFE for their own self development. So far, both are finding their return to study a very enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Kate has been working at SOS Print + Media for 10 years and decided that completing Certificate 1 in Business at TAFE would provide her with new career opportunities. “I want to keep my brain active so that it doesn’t turn to mush!” said Kate. “After the course, I want to work at a school in an admin role or in an office doing filing and answering phones. I’m really enjoying the course. It’s a big step in the right direction.”

Rob has always been known to be a bit of a “self taught computer whiz”, so by completing a Statement of Attainment in Access to Work and Training, he aims to develop a career in computing.

After completing their courses, Kate and Rob aim to complete work experience or volunteer work in their respective areas.
